Who Can Apply

Who can apply?

  • Groups, organisations or individuals can apply if their application purpose is for charitable, cultural, philanthropic, or recreational benefits to the community within the TSB Community Trust’s “specified area”. The area runs from Mokau in the North, to Tahora in the East and Manawapou River in the South.
  • Individuals who reside in Taranaki and are selected to represent New Zealand, selected into a national development squad, along with field scholars attending a recognised overseas educational programme for a minimum of six months are eligible to apply.

The TSB Community Trusts NEW Strategic Plan

To help make our communities better places for everyone to live and ensure a balance between areas of community need, the TSB Community Trust’s new strategic plan identifies nine key programme funding areas. 

From April 2009 all applications requesting funding over $5,000 will be assessed against these strategic objectives.  The applicant will need to describe how their project will meet these objectives and provide evidence to support how they will meet the objectives.  The nine Programme Funding Areas are:

Learningfacilitating improved educational outcomes for people in our region including innovative projects and lifelong learning

Healthsupporting and strengthening community organisations that improve health for the people in our region

Community Wellbeing supporting organisations that actively reduce the negative impact of social problems on our communities

Recreation and Sport – supporting individuals and organisations that focus on participation in recreation, sport and provide for development and excellence

Arts and Culture – supporting creative projects and organisations that aim to foster access to, engagement with and experience with the arts

Heritagesupporting projects and organisations that preserve and promote the physical and cultural heritage of our region

Environment – supporting projects and organisations that protect and enhance the environment in which we live

Community Led Enterpriseworking in partnership with key stakeholders to identity projects that will assist with social development and economic growth through developing community led enterprise

Rescue Services – providing strategic support at a local and regional level for rescue services in our region

Who Can't Apply Back to Top

Who can’t apply?
  • Service Organisations (i.e. Lions, Rotary, etc) do not usually qualify for grants,  but the individual projects, which they are fundraising for, may apply directly to the Trust.
  • Political lobby groups.
  • Church facilities will only qualify for special consideration if evidence is produced that their facility has greater community use.
  • The Trust does not fund retrospectively, applications must be received prior to your project start.

General Criteria
  • There are three types of grants – an Annual Grant, a Special Grant and an Individual Grant.
  • Applicants must bank predominantly or solely with TSB Bank. 
  • Only one grant will be approved to any applicant in any one financial year, i.e. either a annual/multi year or a special grant (see below for definition) – but not both.
  • Schools shall make application under Board of Trustees.
  • Where clubs have men’s, women’s, juniors, and masters sections using the same club facilities, only one grant will be approved. The Trust does not grant to groups who fragment in an attempt to qualify for grants.
  • Youth groups like the Girl Guides and The Scouts may make one application each under their respective district.
  • With the exception of provincial representative teams and qualifying individuals, school and group travel is not generally funded.
  • The Trust does not normally fund ongoing expenses like salaries.
  • The Trust does not fund retrospectively, applications must be received prior to your project start.
